DNB creates a better financial overview

Instant. Seamless. Accessible.

That’s how Norway’s largest bank, DNB, describes the new account aggregation feature in its mobile banking app.

With the multi-banking mobile app, DNB aims to become the go-to platform when Norwegians have to manage their finances. The app will allow millions of consumers to get a better overview of their finances in the near future - no matter how many banks they have.

Let’s see how they did it.

One app. Every bank.

DNB is based in Oslo and is one of the largest financial groups in the Nordics.

To leverage new open banking opportunities, DNB joined forces with Nordic API Gateway to build new account aggregation features in its multi-banking mobile app that enables its customers to get a better financial overview across banks.

With Nordic API Gateway’s extensive coverage of banks in Norway, DNB saw it as a natural fit to team up and build the new mobile app based on Nordic API Gateway’s account information service (AIS).

According to DNB’s Head of Open Banking, Per Kristian Næss Fladset, this is an important milestone to becoming every Norwegian’s mobile bank:

“PSD2 and open banking is all about creating new opportunities and fostering more competition in the industry, and we want to be a leading player in these changes,” he says and continues:

“With Nordic API Gateway, we’re taking full advantage of the opportunities PSD2 creates. It’s a unique opportunity to aggregate financial data from other players to give our customers a better financial overview”.

User-driven banking experiences

As we move into a digital era where time is money, consumers expect seamless and personalised user experiences.

To meet these demands, we’re starting to see a wave of banks and fintechs partnering to create the best services for consumers. Nordic API Gateway’s CEO, Rune Mai, explains:

“We’ve been working closely with DNB to aggregate a broad range of financial data and we’re happy to see it live in their mobile banking app.”

With a better financial picture across bank accounts from different banks, DNB is able to deliver personalised insights to their users and eliminate the hurdles for Norwegians who have bank accounts with several different banks.”

With access to financial data from every bank the Nordics, DNB has been able to solve an important hurdle, as Norway is among the top Nordic countries in the world with the most active bank accounts per inhabitant.
